Coffee, juice, sauce, a pen mark: stains happen quickly, and the first minutes matter. Here is a cautious routine that works for most fabrics.
What to do
- Remove the excess with a spoon or a sheet of paper towel, without spreading it.
- Blot with a clean cloth, preferably white, working from the edge towards the centre of the stain.
- Move to a clean part of the cloth as soon as it picks up the stain, so you do not put it back.
- If the label allows it (code W or WS), lightly dampen with lukewarm water, without soaking.
What to avoid
- Rubbing hard: it damages fibres and spreads the stain.
- Pouring lots of water: moisture seeps into the foam and can leave marks or odours.
- Mixing several household products.
- Using a hair dryer: heat can set some stains.
Always test first
Whatever the product, try it first on a discreet area (under a cushion, at the back) and let it dry to check that the colour does not change.
When to call a professional
Old stains, large areas, leather, velvet or delicate fabric: avoid repeated attempts, which can make treatment harder. Send us a photo instead; we will tell you what is realistic, without promising that a stain will disappear completely.
